Yachtsmen Sail On After Penalty Shoot-out

Wroxham progressed to the 5th round of the FA Vase following a dramatic penalty shoot out against Armthorpe Welfare today.

The sides were deadlocked at 1-1 after 90 minutes and 30 minutes extra time. But Wroxham were much cooler in the shoot out winning 3-0. Wroxham keeper Scott Howie immediately put the Doncaster based Koolsport Northern Counties East side under pressure by saving the first penalty which was followed by two shots over the bar from Armthorpe while Wroxham sharp shooters Shaun Howes, Martin McNeil & Owen Paynter all tucked their shots away.

Earlier Wroxham had enjoyed a bit of good luck as the visitors despite being reduced to 10 men hit the bar and had one shot go the wrong side of the post after taking a deflection to deceive Howie.

During the opening 90 minutes Wroxham scored first inside 5 minutes when McNei's header hit the net but they were pegged back just before the break when after a claim for a penalty at one end following a foul on Gavin Lemmon was dismissed by the Yorkshire side they were immediately awarded a disputed one themselves at the other end.

Wroxham never got into their stride as they had done against Wellie in the previous game and no further goals resulted from open play. The dreaded shoot-out followed and fortunately turned out right for the Yachtsmen who now progress to the 5th round to meet Spartan South Midlands side Royston Town next Saturday.
