Brandon Town 0, Wroxham Reserves 1
Gleave & Associates Anglian Combination Premier Division Saturday 6th March 2010
Referee : J. Broughton (Terrington St Clements) Wroxham had several players missing for the difficult away game at Brandon but it allowed Darren Maxey, Elliott Lyhgoe and Jack Hubbard who havn't figured in recent line-ups to start.
There was a cold stiff breeze blowing down the pitch which Wroxham were attacking but they created the first opportunity when a long kick from Phil Smith was picked by Ollie King who ran forward to lift the ball over Corston who managed to get back before the ball entered the net.
Then Jack Hubbard was bundled over on the right and Danny Boswell's well flighted free-kick held up nicely for Darren Maxey who headed over.
Brandon's Roy Bland took on two Wroxham defenders to get in a snap shot that hit the side netting.
But Wroxham took the lead on 10 mins when Rikki George punted the ball forward for Josh Walsh who neatly lobbed the keeper.
A back header from Danny Self had too much pace on it in the wind and went out for a corner from which Smith smothered the ball to deny Nathan Birch.
Wroxham were on the back foot when Jamie George lost the ball and Brandon broke quickly for Proctor to get in a shot that was brilliantly tipped over by Smith. Smith again excelled to deny Brandon's leading scorer John Waites and brought off another save off his chest to halt Proctor who seemed likely to score.
Smith was putting on a one man show at times and another excellent tip over came from Adam Poile's point blank shot.
However Wroxham held on and in the final moments of the half hit the woodwork twice in a minute when first Danny Self's freekick hit the post and with Brandon struggling to clear Ollie King's header came off the bar.
HT 0-1
Brandon were determined to get back in the game and Bland had a shot which went over the bar and Waites also had a chance but clipped his shot over.
Wroxham were defending well and making some incisive counter attacks. In one a snap shot from Danny Boswell brought a good save from Corston.
Boswell had another chance following a good move but Corston made a great stop.
Wroxham took off Jack Hubbard who had a slight hamstring problem but had played well and brought on Jamie Pedrosa-Minors for the last 20 minutes.
Wroxham were having to defend in numbers and were not helped by some strange refereeing decisions. Smith however was in excellent formand was stopping everything including a splended save off his legs from Waites.
He was then injured and the referee made a crass decision to book him for delaying play this led to free-kick from 6 yards out from which several Wroxham players ended in the book and then Smith was given a second yellow and sent-off. Finally the kick was taken and the ball was cleared.
Boswell took over in goal as Wroxham saw out the game.
