Halstead Town 1, Wroxham 3
FA Carlsberg Vase Second Round Replay Saturday 21st November 2009
Referee : Stuart Pawley (Cambridge) Wroxham Manager David Batch made changes after tuesday nights draw with Danny Self, Andy Eastaugh, Paul Cook and Graham Challen all in the starting line up.
Owen Paynter and Cook were up front to provide a more direct threat and were soon in action.
But it was the home side who came close to scoring in the 3rd minute when a cross ran straight across the Wroxham goal but fortunately no one there to put the ball into the net.
Wroxham were now pressing forward and took the lead when Steve Spriggs went on one of his runs and neatly put the ball into the corner of the net.
This spured Halstead into action and Scott Howie was again in fine form having to pull of some good saves.
Wroxham were playing some very good football keeping the ball on the ground and puting some good passes together. Cook was working hard up front with Paynter and Spriggs and Gilmore were using space on both flanks. Eastaugh and Lemmon had plenty to do in mid field while are the back four looked solid.
On the stroke of half time Wroxham went further ahead when a good move from Spriggs set Paynter up 6 yards from goal for him to hit the ball straight at the keeper so hard it reboanded back into play where Paul Cook was on hand to put it into the net.
HT Halstead 0 Wroxham 2
Straight form the kick off Halstead went on the attack and for a ten min period Wroxham were pinned back and Halstead go their reward when a long ball droped to the foot of a home forward who gave Howie no chance.
Play was now end to end as Wroxham started getting back into the game an dit was not long before they restored their 2 goal advantage and it was the wee man Spriggs who was on target after a good move from Gilmore set him up.
Leighton Miller came on for Challen and James Bulman for Paynter but Halstead never gave up and Wroxham were not going to let this game slip away from them.
This was a first class performance by all the Wroxham players who seemed to be back at their best; we also had a referee who allowed the game to flow and only use the card when it was really necessary. Full report to follow. FT : Halstead Town 1, Wroxham 3 back to previous page |
