Wroxham 2,
Newmarket Town 3

Ridgeons League Premier Division
Saturday 28th November 2009

Referee : Glen Sandell (Costessey)

Attendance : 71

Manager Batch was again having to make changes with 6 first team players unavailable in a game Wroxham had to win to start their climb up the league.

Newmarket started well and had a very speedy winger on the left hand side who was soon causing problems. But Wroxham settled down and had some good moves stopped by a solid Newmarket defence.

In the 15th min the Jockeys went ahead and it was their winger who put in a low cross from the by line into the penalty area and found a red shirt who put it into the back of the net.

Wroxham were going forward now and in the 40th min Owen Paynter picked the ball up 30 yards from goal and let fly with a perfect shot into the top corner of the net to equalise.

HT 1-1

The second half started with Wroxham on the attack with a couple of quick corners which were cleared by the Jockeys defence.

Newmarket were working hard and were awarded a penalty in the 60th min which Scott Howie was unable to stop.

It was more Newmarket than Wroxham at this stage and in the 70th min they went further ahead to make it Wroxham 1 Newmarket 3.

Wroxhjam were really trying hard to come back and in the 85th min Martin McNeil was in the right spot to score from a corner to pull one back.

But this was not enough as the final whistel went.

This was a very disappointing result for the very few Wroxham fans that turned out to watch the game and as I was standing at the gate end some fans were leaving after Newmarkets 3rd goal!

This is a very worrying time for myself and other members of the football club regarding the financial outlook of the club that we all work so hard to keep running and we ask all our supporters to help us to get back up the league by giving us their support as they have done in the past.

Much has been said about gates in the last month and for us and many other clubs the situation is getting worse by the week.
