Ridgeons League Cup First Round
Tuesday 20th October 2009

Referee : Glen Hambling (Norwich)

The game kicked off , with the visitors in confident mood, Ollie King's movement was already causing the home defence problems, and although the pace of Spriggs and Gilmore might have been missed , the dangerous looking Bullman, and Daniels were on equal levels in the pace dept. A left sided cross beat Howe's on 6 minutes was scrambled away by the keeper, and again a Howe's corner was missed by King only by inches. There were chances for both Daniels and Bullman, with the latter being put through, only to see the linesman flag go up. The opening came on 15 minutes, Howe's while defending put in a superb tackle on young Nicky Howell, and came away with the ball, and crossed it in to space for Ollie King to latch on to, who in turn looped the ball over the on-coming keeper in some style.Still the visitors pushed and it looked odds on they would get a second, but the score stayed 1-0 until half time.

after the break , as expected , Dereham came out all guns blazing, but Miller, and Carus, cleared up ever thing in the air, and the whole defence looked well organized . In fact , Wroxham had then best chance of the half, when Bullman, was clear through on goal, and the keeper done well to save his low drive. The equaliser came right out of the blue, with only minutes remaining, a cross was pushed out by Smith, but Robbie Harris was in the right place at the right time to header the late goal.

So in to extra time, and both sides were searching for that winning goal, it was evident that the introduction of the pacey Spriggs, gave the Yachtsman the perfect lift, and his introduction was more than justified 11 minutes in to the first period when a Howe's pass found Spriggs, who turned his man inside out, and firing a 20 yard unstoppable shot in to the left hand top net.The best chance of the second half was a Miller shot from a corner that the keeper stopped point blank.

So we ended the match the worthy winners, manager Batch was full of praise for the team , more so for their excellent workrate, and shows what a strong squad we have at present, which can only be good news for Wroxham FC.
