Harwich & Parkeston 0,
Wroxham 1

Ridgeons League Premier Division
Saturday 17th March 2007

Referee : Lee Betts (Great Yarmouth)

Attendance : 105

On a mild afternoon it was the visitors who had the first attack of the game as they won a corner and as Lemmon swung the ball into the box, Gilman's well struck shot was bravely blocked. Soon after Pauling crossed well but Wass jumped high to claim the ball as Wroxham dominated the opening exchanges.

At the other end a strong run by Chatters won his side a corner that was easily dealt with by Woodcock. Harwich were coming into the game more and a long ball over the top caught out the Wroxham back line and Underwood got his shot in, but Woodcock saved well.

A bobbly surface meant that both sides were struggling to keep the ball although Lemmon did well to get his cross in and King's shot looked to be on target, but the effort was blocked. By now there wasn't much to choose between the sides and Harwich should have taken the lead from a corner as Morley's great ball found Underwood at the far post but he failed to hit the target with his close range header.

Following a foul on Gilman, Lemmon crossed low into the area and Gilman managed to get his shot in, but Wass was untroubled. The home side responded well again and for the remainder of the half they had most of the possession, but neither goalkeeper was unduly troubled at the end of a disappointing 45 minutes.Wroxham made a double change at the break with Fox and Gilmore replacing Howlett and King and the visitors responded well to their half time talking to as they began with a much greater sense of urgency. Fox was soon involved as he played the ball into the area and Key appeared to be pushed to the ground but the referee was unimpressed by the penalty appeals.

Soon after Harwich had their own penalty appeals waved away as Morley went down under pressure from Lemmon. From a Wroxham corner Key flicked the ball on well and Harwich broke quickly but Woodcock raced from his area to clear, then the ball was played forward again and Underwood looked well offside but the assistant kept his flag down, but the Harwich man's header lacked any power.

Soon afternoon Underwood was again allowed to continue from a seemingly offside position, but again he failed to take advantage with another poor finish. Wroxham countered as Key and Gilman combined to find Gilmore and he burst into the area before crossing but the ball was hacked clear.

With 15 minutes remaining Wroxham introduced Cook for his debut in place of the limping Key and he quickly got involved by flicking the ball on as the Yachtsmen pressed forward for a winner.

Excellent work by Gilman saw him find Lemmon who laid the ball into Cook and his shot on the turn was only narrowly wide of the target. By now it was all Wroxham but Harwich were defending well in their attempt to claim a point. However, with just 3 minutes remaining the Yachtsmen got the all important goal as Howes picked the ball up on the left and clipped a delightful ball in to Gavin Lemmon whose diving header sparked scenes of wild celebration from the visitors.

However, there was still time for some late drama as Harwich won a free kick 25 yards from goal and Springett's effort cleared the wall and beat Woodcock but the Shrimpers were denied an equaliser as the ball struck the inside of the post and bounced along the goal line before being cleared.

FT : Harwich & Parkeston 0, Wroxham 1

Wroxhamfc.com man of the match - Gavin Lemmon

A disappointing display from Wroxham against a very spirited Harwich outfit, but in the end one moment of quality from the Yachtsmen proved to be enough for them to claim all three points. Woodcock made a number of important stops in the first period, whilst Gilman gave a typical battling display, but the man of the match award goes to Gavin Lemmon for scoring the all important goal.
